Industrial Scrap Sources

Industrial scrap sources

An unintended consequence of any manufacturing or fabricating facility that uses iron or steel is the creation of scrap by-products from trimmings, offal, mistakes/rejects, or left-overs. Industrial plants provide 30 – 35% of scrap in the USA … 22 million net tons in year 2003. Some industrial facilities are serviced by a scrap processor, who removes the scrap and may prepare it for consumers, or may simply aggregate smaller quantities and transload them into a commercial-sized shipment. Material from larger plants usually is in a form that requires no further processing and can move directly to the melting facilities of scrap consumers.
